Debbie Siebers is one of the most familiar names in the world of fitness. Her Slim in 6 infomercial ran for 17 years, one of the longest runs in TV history. With all that success in the fitness market, she was looking to re-orient her personal brand towards wellness and lifestyle practices for consumers aged 50+.

My professional relationship with Siebers began at a Denver coffee shop. She was having phone troubles, and I looked like her “computer guy”. Still not entirely sure I see the resemblance, but so be it. Debbie and I began talking about branding and business strategy. One thing led to another, and I began developing her personal brand.

Siebers wanted to create a new product in the form of a subscription service. I strongly recommended using a preexisting platform like Patreon, and YouTube for free sample material. In the current era, media isn’t always going to have a direct ROI on every material put out. Building good faith with the consumer is crucial to making your media investment worth it. In the era of free videos on YouTube, what makes your service worth it, and how do we convert the audience?

She also wanted the new brand to be meditative and calm, with sleek sophistication in its visual design, so a seriffed primary font, and a sans-serif secondary made for a perfect visual style. Inspired by other wellness brands, and taking a minimalistic approach in the design and color palette, it was created to be new, while still being familiar.

The copy was possibly the greatest challenge, and most fun part of the project. Researching the terminology and meaning of the wellness industry was something I (as a person who could barely define self-care) was incredibly fascinating.

The outcome was a more well-rounded, approachable, and modern brand identity and a second stream of profit.
